Fortress Amberd — the military defensive point of the Armenian kingdom. This is a significant event for the Armenian people, and the fortress itself is one of its greatest creations.
Amberd is the largest Armenian fortress. Located in the province of Aragatsotn (at the confluence of the Arkashen and Amberd rivers) at an altitude of more than 2000 meters. Coming to us in a dilapidated state, the fortress still personifies the indomitable spirit of those times when it performed the seemingly incredible defensive functions. Amberd is not only a historical value, but also one more place, breathtaking breath, from where you can admire the picturesque Armenian nature. The date of construction of the fortress-castle is still unknown. Amberd was most famous during the Roman Empire, and also after the birth of Jesus Christ. Some scientists point to the cyclopean, and others to the Urartian and early medieval periods. However, excavations and archaeological studies of the castle suggest that Amberd was erected around the X-XIII centuries.
